Legal requirements for being a Parish Councillor

  1. You must be at least 18 years old
  2. A British, Commonwealth or European citizen
  3. A local elector or to have lived, worked or owned a property in the parish for at least a year

Being effective Parish Councillor

  • You need no specific educational qualifications or training but you do need to enough time to attend meetings and to prepare for them by reading the supporting documents.
  • You need to attend the meetings with an open mind, be able to listen to all sides of a topic and make impartial voting decisions on what you feel is in the best interests of the whole community.
