Millbrook Lake Draining

Below is the latest communication from the Environment Agency regarding Millbrook Lake:

From: Cornwall West AP <CornwallWestAP@environment-agency.gov.uk>
Date: Thu, 10 Aug 2023 at 14:50
Subject: Environment Agency – Faulty penstock

I am the current Environment Agency ‘Flood Incident Duty Officer’ for Cornwall.

I spoke with you on the phone yesterday morning (09/08/23) regarding Millbrook lake and the problem with the penstock.

Since then I have gathered a little more information and I will summarise below:

  • The penstock has a broken gearbox and we are waiting for our suppliers to provide a replacement part. It will have to remain it in it’s current position until then.
  • This does not pose any increased flood risk.
  • The gearbox part is on order with our suppliers; we have chased them up but have no delivery date yet.
  • Due to the current position of the penstock we are reliant on the river to fill the pool back up, this why it’s taking longer than usual to refill.

Due to the reasons above we will not be completing the scheduled flushing of the pool on Thursday 17th August.

When we have any updates on the repair situation we will let you know.

If you have any further queries please get in touch.

Many thanks,

Jack Hudaverdi
