Yellow rattle and wildflower seed sowing along New Road in Millbrook

Oct 3, 2024 | Community News, Cornwall Council, Council News

You may have noticed that Cormac have been in the village this week, cutting and scarifying the grass verges along New Road, and Millbrook Parish Council is grateful to them for making ready the soil in preparation for more yellow rattle and wildflower seeds to be sown.

Next week, our Grass Management Contractor Hill Ryder will be leading the  local schools, pre-school, community volunteers and the village enhancement team to sow the seeds.

Scarifying removes the thatch from the roots of the grass and although leaves the verges muddy and torn, it is an essential part of the process, ensuring that the seeds come into direct contact with the soil to give them their best chance to germinate in the spring.

The grass verges along the edges of New Road, MILLBROOK has drawn fantastic favourable comment from not only those who live along New Road but also many of MILLBROOK villagers.

Why on earth do you wish to spoil this with a form of re-wilding or is this as a results of local biodiversity zealots ? When were the residents along New Road consulted about this initiative ? And, just how much will this cost taxpayers ?
