Our flagship rural grant programme supports projects which enable local communities to improve their lives through their own endeavours.
We recently visited Millbrook Skatepark Project who we awarded funding to in Autumn 2022. It was fantastic to be joined by Fran and Karenza from Millbrook Parish Council – Cornwall to speak to Sandy Stevenson who heads up the fundraising project as well as hearing from one of the skate park users, Joe.
He says: “I grew up just outside the village and I have three boys now and we have all use the skate park over the past 20 years. It’s great news to be having it overhauled. I have been involved with the design with around 60 other people. It’s going to benefit all the community – a safe place for kids to be.”
We talked about their need for a community space which is fit for purpose, how they have taken on the mammoth task fundraising and the plans for the area. The build is due to start in the autumn and we can’t wait to see the progress and re-visit when the skate park is thriving!
Thank you to Sandy for having us to visit – we love seeing the projects and meeting the people who are the driving force behind them.
