At the Annual Parish meeting this year there was a request made not to flush the lake during the bird nesting season – The Environmental Agencies confirmed that the lake is flushed regularly to reduce the numbers of midges, which coincides with the bird nesting season. If flushing was stopped during this time, the midge reduction would be compromised. This would need to be an acceptable consequence.

It is essential that the lake draining is maintained through out the year to control the black Midgie flies that swarm around the edges of the lake. We who live on Lower Anderton Road become prisoners in our homes to avoid these pests and protect our health. If there is a problem with bird nesting the biggest offenders are the dog walkers who unleash their animals and walk ahead, Bring in a bye law to make it compulsory to keep dogs on leads around the lake,this would also reduce the dog fouling which is a disgrace. The Cob swan is also responsible for killing any young chicks the he encounters ,plus the otter family that is frequently seen in the lake.
