Following lengthy communication with Gilbert & Goode (the appointed contractors for the Southdown Road development) and Cornwall Council’s Address Management Team, the decision was made to call the street ‘Millbrook Meadows’.
A street name of ‘Tamar View’ was originally put forward by the developers. The Parish Council reached out to members of the public to ask for feedback. It was pointed out the new site will not have a view of the Tamar. Various suggested names were put forward including Hawkes View – named after Adrian Hawke (deemed by many as a local unsung hero – a hardworking volunteer in the village) Adrian lived at Southdown and the development site would have been daily view as he walked to and from work. . A Facebook poll was conducted and feedback was also obtained at Millbrook Meet up and via website posts. Although Hawkes View was the most popular choice, Cornwall Council rejected option as it their current policy is not name streets after individuals. See page 6 of Cornwall Council’s Street Naming and Numbering Guidance Notes. (Cornwall Council will normally object to the use of a name which relates directly to any personal/family name of any individuals who are either living or dead. In exceptional circumstances, the Council will consider and/or approve the use of a personal name if the reason for this is clearly set out in the proposal and if consent for use of the name is provided in writing by the relevant Head of Service following consultation with the appropriate Cabinet Member and the local Cornwall Council Member for the relevant division(s).)
As we also have buzzards , sparrow hawks that frequent that area whilst it’s still a green field a request was made to call the street ‘Hawks View’. However, this suggestion was not approved by Cornwall Council.
Following further communication and community engagement the second most popular choice ‘Millbrook Meadows’ was selected. Cornwall Council is currently waiting for confirmation of the postcode from Royal Mail (last update received 1st June 2026)
