Climate and Environment

Environmental Actions to date (September 2025)

  • Biodiversity and reducing carbon footprint – planting wildlife seeds to reduce mowing and improve food sources and habitat.   Reducing mowing / cutting to allow more habitat in selected area around the park and cemetery.
  • Prioritising local firms for works commissioned by the Council to reduce travel emissions.
  • Requiring contractors to provide a sustainability statement e.g., for the grass cutting tenders.  Working for the Council – Contractors | Millbrook Parish Council
  • Millbrook Parish Council has an Environment and Climate Change policy that obliges us to consider the environmental impact of works carried out or items supplied by its contractors. Employing local contractors is one way to reduce this impact. Contractors who have their own environmental policy are asked to provide a copy. Depending on the nature of the work we are contracting out, the Council may need to ask for more information from applicants about how they try to reduce the environmental impact of their work.
  • Checking sustainability when purchasing for office use and for public spaces, e.g. benches from recycled plastic or sustainability sourced timber; recycled paper (more work to be done on this, as its no always considered by default).
  • Installation of EV Charging Points.
  • Installation of bicycle stores and bike stands to encourage cycling.
  • Instrumental in encouraging the set up of Rame Repair Cafe.
